The shaky financial situation of General Motors may keep them from delivering the production type Converj concept car.

The Cadillac Converj concept car was unveiled during the recent Detroit Auto Show. The car will be using the same technology used in the plug-in hybrid Volt of the Chevrolet brand.

During an interview, GM executives said that they will build the Converj production version to look exactly the same as the concept car. The company’s major concern is the availability of funds that will build the car.

GM engineers are not worried about the lithium ion battery that will need to power their cars. They said that the batteries will be ready for the 2010 launch of the Vault.

A Converj might have a sticker similar to the range of luxury coupes. If it will be like the Lexus SC or the Cadillac XLR then it will be between $67000 and $86000.

The Volt will likely have a higher sticker than the usual Chevrolet car. It will be rolling out to the market beyond the $40K tag price. A lot of enthusiasts were wondering if the Volt should have been under the brand of Cadillac. The manufacturer wanted to line the Volt with Chevrolet which is a 5 million unit marketing brand. It also allows them to sell the car around the globe.

GM does not foresee big profits from the Volt because of the high cost of the batteries. They are also looking into using the technology with their other brands like Cadillac so they can charge more.

The company is looking into deriving other technologies from the Volt Technology.
